On arrival

Arrival date

For our domestic students, you may arrive on campus any date you wish.

Upon your arrival, please schedule an orientation time with Mark Cooper, Graduate Studies Coordinator, in room 477 Watts Hall, 2041 College Rd. between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This orientation will include:

  • information about the MSE dept.,
  • registration for GRA employment,
  • establishing an MSE e-mail account & dept. mailbox,
  • other general details

Getting to the MSE dept.

Driving

Please park at the Ohio Union parking garage, #288 along the lower edge of the map, when you first arrive on campus:

  1. Use this link to Yahoo!'s map service for directions to the Ohio Union garage. There will be a fee to park; Mark Cooper can provide you with a parking pass for the day.
  2. Once parked, exit the garage on College Rd. and turn right (north).
  3. Follow College Rd. past The Oval (large open area on your left), past 17th, 18th, and 19th Avenues.
  4. Watts Hall is located on College Rd. between 19th Ave. and West Woodruff Ave. Watts Hall location Watts Hall is in the lower center of this map (building #107).

Public Transportation

The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) operates an extensive system of bus routes throughout Franklin County. The cost is $1.50 one way. See http://www.cota.com/ for more details on routes.

The COTA site offers an "Trip Planner" which allows you to specify departure and arrival locations around Columbus. COTA will provide the bus line number and time at which it will arrive at a specified location.

The closest bus stop to our building is called "HIGH ST @ WOODRUFF AVE, COLUMBUS".

Walking/biking

Use Yahoo! map service for directions from a given location to Watts Hall. Specific directions to Watts Hall.

Orientation

MSE orientation

All new MSE students are to schedule an orientation session with Mark Cooper, MSE Graduate Studies Coordinator. Please contact Mark at (614) 292-7280 or by e-mail at mse@osu.edu. These orientations are held in room 477 Watts Hall, 2041 College Rd. between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. The session provides information about the MSE dept., including:

  • registration for GRA employment,
  • establishing an e-mail account & dept. mailbox,
  • health insurance & OSU ID card,
  • enrolling in classes,
  • other general details

Watts Hall location--Watts Hall is building 107, lower right section of the map.

Graduate School orientation

The Graduate School and the Council of Graduate Students will host a university-wide orientation for all new 2008 graduate students (i.e., Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn arrivals). This orientation will be held on the Monday before the start of Autumn Quarter classes, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Independence Hall (Independence Hall location--Independence Hall is in the lower right of the map, building 338). This orientation is a very valuable introduction to the services provided by the Graduate School, the Graduate Student Council, and various offices across campus.

Research group

Further orientation concerning office & lab space, work expectations, safety issues and more will be provided by your advisor.
